Resep: Béchamel Sauce (Recipe)

Image
It's great for pasta, croque monsieur , lasagna filling, or as a base for cheese sauce. The thickness of the sauce may vary depending what you're going to make. I personally like to add garlic puree for extra flavor. Ingredients : 3 tbsp butter 3 tbsp all purpose flour 3 cups milk a pinch of grated nutmeg salt to taste Directions : On a sauce pan, melt the butter, add in flour, stir until combined. Pour the milk little by little, you may want to use a whisk to prevent any lumps. Season it with salt and nutmeg Find me on: Youtube  and  Instagram   @heytheresia  for daily food and travel updates

OK so what is actually " ayam geprek "? Not a traditional Javanese food but locals made it like typical food of Yogyakarta, it's everywhere though not as many as gudeg . Here's few ingredients you'll need to make ayam geprek ala Jogja: Ingredients : 1 pcs your favorite American style fried chicken 1 clove of garlic few hot chili peppers (I used red bird's eye chili) salt to taste Optional ingredients : 1/4 tsp sugar a sliced of tomato (optional) shrimp paste / terasi (optional), I did NOT put any, but you can try, adjust to your taste a pinch of granulated mushroom bouillon (optional

This city has a huge amount of visitors, tourists, and students from other region. Most of newbies are most likely get surprised about how "sweet" is the food here. Javanese loves sweet, they put plenty of sugar not only in desserts but also main dishes.  Gudeg  is generally very sweet but some places serve less-sweet  gudeg  to adjust the visitors palate. Aside from  gudeg ,   penyetan   is also very popular among locals and comer. So if what is actually " penyetan "? Pretty similar with what known as " lalapan " in Malang, but here in around Jakarta and most cities in West Java such as Bandung, we're more familiar with   pecel ayam . The place that serve   ayam goreng   (fried chicken) or sometimes   ayam bakar   (grilled chicken) accompanied with home special   sambal   that can be spicy-savory or sweet and spicy.   Tempeh   and tofu are the most general findings in   warung penyetan . Here are some of   penyetan   places that I've visited few t

Because I knew it's gonna be good and affordable. Personally I used Greenfields product quite often especially mozzarella cheese. Made something very easy yet very delightful dish, it's Ricotta Strawberry French Roast Sandwich .  Ingredients : 2 slices white bread 1/4 cup milk 1 egg 1/2 tbsp sugar vanilla extract or cinnamon powder a pinch of salt 1 tbsp butter Filling : 1/2 cup strawberries, sliced 3 tbsp Greenfields Ricotta cheese 2 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp lemon juice salt to taste Directions : For the filling, mix Greenfields Ricotta cheese with sugar, saltm and lemon juice until the sugar completely dissolved, set a side In a bo

Kedai Ling Ling: Home For Asian Dessert

Kedai Ling Ling Sukajadi Bandung: Home For Asian Dessert! Lived in this city for around 5 years, the place that filled with creative people from music to culinary. It's a never ending innovation  Kedai Ling Ling is famous for its cheap affordable Japanese food such as ramen and takoyaki (octopus balls). Throw away that thoughts from "real ramen " I'm talking about customized ramen that probably more acceptable for locals. In fact, their takoyaki was quite nice, best I can find in Bandung.  Earlier, I did a short food trip, finally coming back to Bandung. Kedai Ling Ling is located at Sukajadi, 10 minutes away from Hilton , very close to Paris Van Java Mall. The place is so huge, to be compared with their Cihampelas and Trunojoyo outlet, more seating, less crowded.  When I saw on the menu, OK now they have a lot more to offer especially desserts. Still remember clearly that they're famous for what's called Mango Dessert. This time, I ordered something simil

The Melting Pot Plaza Senayan Jakarta: Definelety A Yes For Cheese Fondue A friend of mine,  nvcl told me about this place, by the time she mentioned cheese fondue, I don't need more words, it's definitely a yes! I'm in. The Melting Pot is an American originated restaurant, and now you can enjoy it here in Jakarta. Cheese fondue is the signature, each served with bread platter that consists of artisan bread, veggies, corn tortilla chips, and apple cubes. First, it's Cheddar Cheese Fondue (IDR 108.000) aged medium sharp cheddar and Emmental Swiss cheese, lager beer, and garlic. Everyone's favorite, mild cheesy taste, best to be dipped with apple yes instead of bread. For cheese lovers or even adventurous foodies, go for  Spinach Artichoke (IDR 118.000) consists of Fontina and Gouda cheese, spinach, artichoke hearts, and garlic. Tiny artichoke bits added an entice texture. As a person with great fondness of cheese, both are lovely though it was too oily to my likin

Sweet Belly and DonWoori Suki

Sweet Belly and DonWoori Suki Bandung: Cute Desserts and Casual Korean Food Both are located in the same building, Sweet Belly is part of DonWoori Suki . Take place at the shady Jalan Lombok, close to Gudeg Banda. How I miss this city with its small road, less traffic than Jakarta. As the last time, stayed at Hilton Bandung  that is just right if you're into exploring culinary around Chinatown. This area is different, just a short turn from Riau street, honestly, got no idea about this place, but by the time I stepped in, yes so pretty, particularly outdoor seating area. Another cute spot, serving casual Korean food and suki , with a dessert cafe on terrace, interesting. Chicken Kimbab - typical Korean rice rolls, consists of chicken, spinach, carrot, and pickled radish. Accompanied by soy sauce. Portion was extremely generous, got twelve pieces of kimbab. Tasty filling though I was expecting stronger sesame oil flavor. Perhaps I should try some other savory dishes, but it was t

Nasi Pedas dan Bebek Crispy Dewata Gading Serpong: Finally, Another Balinese Food In Serpong!! Lately I've been craving for Balinese food more precisely suckling pig but here I can't find any. Someone, somebody need to look up for this, well seriously it's gonna be big! So rather than nothing, nasi pedas sounds just good. Found a new place for Balinese food in Serpong called Nasi Pedas dan Bebek Crispy Dewata . Actually I am a frequent of Warung Made Nasi Bali-Ku Pasar Modern BSD City (they're also at Kencana Loka), the only reason because it's the only I can find and remain being my favorite in Serpong. When it comes to Balinese food, sambal matah is compulsion for me, following by urap Bali . There were so many to choose, from spicy eggplant to sate lilit (fish satay), one that caught my heed was the crispy chicken skin which was far from my expectation, I was expecting savory umami taste. I'd rather have more ayam pelalah with their home sambal , super sp

How To Make Super Fragrant Garlicky Aglio Olio Pasta?

Image
A very simple, the easiest pasta dish yet comforting, it's Aglio Olio pasta. Oil based pasta that basically consists of oil, garlic, salt and pepper, hot pepper flakes, and pasta of your choice. Long pasta is the most common for aglio olio , such as spaghetti and capellini . Thinly sliced garlic is the characteristic, do not chop, because it's what Italian do for aglio olio . I've made it few times, not often, when eating out, I tried many from different places. A curiosity of me that how come few certain restaurants can make super fragrant and garlicky aglio olio pasta. Tried few different ways, adding massive amount of garlic, using very low heat, but no, it's not there yet. Until last week, OK this may not authentic but turned out quite nice, added some garlic infused oil instead of only using regular olive oil. You can get it in larger supermarket or perhaps you want to make your own at home? I found the recipe by Martha Stewart about how to make garlic oil . Anot

AW Kitchen by Akira Watanabe: First Anniversary Dinner

Image
AW Kitchen by Akira Watanabe - Jakarta: First Anniversary Dinner First is always special. This week, I attended a dinner fete celebrating one year old AW Kitchen   by Akira Watanabe , Plaza Senayan. To survive, it's not easy, new restaurants keep coming up all year long at least few in a month. But they made it, perhaps because Italian food that fit to everyone's tongue or is it Japanese ingredients that likely accepted by most of us?  Antipasto - Gazpacho Shrimp Pinchos, Caponata Canape, Yellow Tail and Salmon Carpaccio . Great combination to start dinner, every part of this dish was just appetizing, fresh shot of gazpacho succeed tantalized my taste bud. Though I'm not a fan of raw fish but tuna and salmon carpaccio were the prime increasing my appetite. Primi Pasta - Cold Capellini with Salmon, Capers and Lemon Sauce  it was like Japanese buckwheat noodle, cold soba but in different way. Thin capellini pasta coated with chilled basil pesto sauce, tiny diced salmon on

Llao Llao Frozen Yogurt Jakarta

Image
The First Llao Llao Frozen Yogurt in Indonesia: Finally, It's Here!  Jakarta, it's our turn, well if you visit Singapore quite often you may be familiar with this frozen yogurt brand, Llao Llao (read: yaw-yaw). The first outlet located in the most hectic shopping mall at west Jakarta, Central Park Mall.  Pretty much similar to some other frozen yogurt brand, it's served with various toppings from fresh fruits to crunchy cookies. Llao Llao's signature is Sanum - combination of frozen yogurt, 3 layers of fruits, 2 layers of crunchy toppings, and your choice of sauce. Choices of fruits are vary, because they use mostly seasonal fresh fruits though preserved fruit such as longan  is available too. For the crunch: Oreo, hazelnuts, Chips Ahoy, colored candies, and muesli are some that you can add into your cup.  Ok so for my Sanum (IDR 58.000), I got banana, strawberries, and mango with caramelized biscuit and caramelized sunflower seeds. Honestly the hardest part was when

Ayam Geprek Istimewa Bogor

Ayam Geprek Istimewa Bogor: Kuliner Wajib di Bogor - A Modest Place To Eat For Everyone One of the things that I really like when it comes to this city, foods are quite affordable, it's palatable but not cheap in flavor. I've been living in Bogor since I was a little, it's a place with a very slow development to be compared with some other cities around Jakarta and applied in culinary scene too. De'Leuit might be more popular among Jakartans and tourists but as Bogor citizen, I'd like to introduce Ayam Geprek Istimewa . Not a new name, established in 2001 from a small rumah makan in Bangbarung area. While ' ayam ' means chicken in Bahasa Indonesia, ayam geprek is fried chicken that smashed using a stone pestle though here it's different from Yogyakarta version of ayam geprek , the battered American style fried chicken and smashed until shattered.  Though Ayam Geprek is the main menu but personally I prefer their Ayam Goreng Legit (IDR 14.000). Delic
