Resep: Salmon Mentai Rice | Beef Shirataki Mentai

Image
It's delicious but really I could not finish one portion, yes thank's to the amount of mayo. So, let's just share.  Mentai Rice , it's actually very easy to make as long as you have kitchen blow torch or use the oven to broil the mentaiko sauce. The sauce itself is made from mayonaise, preferably Japanese mayo like Kewpie and mentaiko (pollock roe / cod roe). If it's hard to find then simply replace it with tobiko (flying fish roe). Please do not skip the fish roe. Anyway, I bought the mentaiko from Tokopedia around IDR 270k for 500 grams, that's a lot, I know. Alternatively, take a look at Papaya Supermarket or other big supermarket as mentaiko is kinda hard to find here. I made 3 dishes with this Mentai sauce, the first one is the one with crabstick served with rice that mixed with nori powder, you can also use furikake. The second is nori rice with salmon aburi. Lastly, sweet and savory beef with garlic butter shirataki noodles. Well, the last one is definite

Momozen Jakarta: More Than Truffle

Image
I thought it's all about truffle as I slightly take a look to their menu, well guess I was wrong, Momozen is a modern Japanese restaurant. Using fine ingredients, to me personally I knew it's going to be good. The idea of taking Japanese food to a new level with an interesting way, fancy presentation, fascinating dishes. Shall we start with To-Morokoshi Potage (IDR 80.000) - creamy corn soup with charred cauliflower bits, and nori powder, hands down, it a warm comforting dish, creamy yet not overwhelming, sweet savory, fragrant charred cauliflower. As I'm not really a 'soup person', I must say that I enjoyed every sip of it. But more, the number one on the list, must order dish here, the Black Truffle Somen with Caviar (IDR 80.000) fancy plating, super fragrant, very appetizing. Even you're not into cold noodles, this will be an exception.  Moving on, his favorite dish Baby Chic Truffle Rice (IDR 300.000) charcoal grilled whole baby chicken stuffed with truf

HONU Poke & Matcha Bar - Jakarta

Image
Finally a special place for Poke in Jakarta, I think this is the start as Singapore already has several places for Poke. We're joining the hype. Poke is a typical Hawaiian dish, made from marinated (commonly) raw fish, tuna is the most popular, while vegetarian Poke is made using tofu. It goes well with salad or the famous one, with rice known as Poke Bowl. I've never had many Poke Bowl in my life but yes I've tried some and I've made it couple times. Aloha Poke in Singapore is one of them, go check out my previous post here , they have amazing Poke. To describe, Poke is simply a raw fish salad. HONU is located in Kemang, the place was quite nice, not too spacious but clean and simple. Combining Poke and Matcha, very interesting. Not many to offer on the menu, there are two options, regular and small size for the Poke Bowl. We decided to order The Skinny (IDR 50.000 / small), tuna with shoyu, salad, edamame, cucumber, seaweed, and pickled ginger, wise portion, it was

Resep: Japanese Curry Rice Recipe

Image
It's not that complicated to make your own Japanese Curry Rice, it goes well with chicken, katsu, prawn, or even hard boiled egg, but this version is using beef. I do recommend to use beef steak, premium one is better because you don't want tough meat in your curry.  What makes it different? Japanese Curry has brownish color to be compared with the Korean Curry which is yellowish and milder in taste. Golden Curry and Vermont are the most common brand for making Japanese Curry, usually they have 3 types, mild, medium, and hot. Personally I always go for the hot one. If you can't find curry block then you surely can make it using curry powder instead. But first make a roux (butter / oil + flour) to thicken the sauce, also add some soy sauce instead of salt to create the brown curry sauce. Ingredients : 1 onion, cut into cubes 1/2 cup sliced carrot (1.5 cm) 1 cup sliced potato (1.5-2 cm) 250 gr beef steak, cut into cubes (I used Sirloin, but feel free to use any of your fav cu

Sukiyaki At Shabu Shabu Gen - The Plaza Thamrin

Image
Indulgence your appetite with the new Sukiyaki set from Shabu Shabu Gen , yes they're famous for their Shabu-Shabu though. The difference between Shabu-Shabu and Sukiyaki, Sukiyaki is cooked with just a little amount of liquid while Shabu-Shabu is soupy that you're able to slurp the broth. Sukiyaki is much sweeter, thicker beef slices, and no soup to sip. chawanmushi First, let me start with Chawanmushi , classic Japanese appetizer, steamed egg topped with prawn, shiitake mushroom, and veggies. To bring up the appetite, a salad consists of lettuce, cherry tomato, radish, carrot, and sweet corn, tangy Japanese dressing, salty soy sauce, and my favorite sesame oil.  fresh salad Finally, the main dish, Sukiyaki. Sirloin A4 Kagoshima , melt in mouth, super tasty beefy, dipped into raw egg if you like (just like how it supposed to be), but personally I'm not into raw egg so I prefer to eat it right away. I suggest to add small amount of grated ginger, though you're not reall

Resep: Cheese Okonomiyaki Recipe (Savory Japanese Pancake)

Image
A fulfilling Japanese snack, my version of Okonomiyaki with bacon and cheese. You can do it without bacon if you don't eat pork or replace it with beef bacon, most of people use pork belly but I thought why not bacon? Talking about the ingredients, you surely can add pretty much anything from chicken to seafood and for the veggies, cabbage is a must, in addition I like it with sweet corn. Some of the uncommon ingredients such as okonomiyaki sauce, dashi , aonori , and katsuobushi can be found at certain supermarket in Jakarta such as Grand Lucky, Ranch Market, KemChick, Papaya Fresh Gallery, and AEON Supermarket in Serpong. Ingredients : 1 cup all purpose flour 3/4 cup water 1 cup cabbage 1/4 cup ham / smoked beef 1/2 cup assorted seafood or chicken 2 eggs 3 stalks scallion, thinly sliced 2-4 slices bacon 1/2 tsp dashi salt to taste Toppings : okonomiyaki sauce cheese mayonaise aonori (green nori) katsuobushi (bonito flakes) sliced scallion Watch the video for the directions

Sumire Japanese Restaurant - Grand Hyatt Jakarta

Image
If I may ask you, what's your favorite Japanese Food, probably sushi and ramen are the most common, how about Kushiyaki? Skewered and grilled meat and vegetables, the most famous Kushiyaki is Yakitori (grilled skewered chicken). Last week, I went to Sumire Japanese Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Jakarta , dominated with Japanese, very busy during lunch time (remember it's inside a 5 stars hotel), convinced me that this place is certainly special. the private room sushi bar This month, they have promotion for Kushiyaki set, starting with only IDR 265k++ salad, rice, and drink are included. First, it's affordable, secondly, it was sooo good. To describe my beef kushiyaki, it came on pot with charcoal on the bottom, they use certain Japanese charcoal that doesn't create too much smoke. Five skewers in total, asparagus, shiitake mushrooms, beef cubes, beef roll, and beef tongue. My uber favorite is the beef cubes, super tender and juicy. Those skewers came along with a bowl of s
