Resep: Chicken Nanban with Tartar Sauce (Japanese Fried Chicken) Recipe

Image
Started few months ago when I saw a picture of Chicken Nanban on Instagram , then I tried to find out about how to make my own. This recipe is inspired by my favorite Cooking With Dog on Youtube, also Jun's Kitchen that cooks with his orange tabby cat, super attractive, and yes reminds me of Kimi my orange tabby!  So, it's actually a very easy dish, but you need to make your sweet sour nanban sauce ahead and of course the tartar sauce. To make nanban sauce, you probably need less vinegar if using regular white vinegar, if you're not consume alcohol then replace the mirin with water and add more sugar to taste. Ingredients:  300 gr chicken fillet 1 egg 1 clove garlic 150 gr flour or as needed salt and pepper to taste oil for frying Nanban Sauce: 60 ml mirin or water (add more sugar if needed) 60 ml rice vinegar 45 ml soy sauce or to taste 2 tbsp sugar Tartar Sauce: 1/2 cup Japanese mayonaise 1/2 minced onion (small), rinsed with cold water 1 hard boiled egg 2 tbsp minced pic

German Christmas Tradition: Stollen Bread Making at Marche Indonesia

Image
My first Marche experience is when I was in Germany, one to remember they have delicious pretzel. Here in Jakarta they have 2 outlets, at Plaza Senayan and in the center of Jakarta at Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall. If I may ask, what's your favorite from Marche? Will you agree me if I say R östi ? Marche have amazing  R östi, a very simple hearty dish but yet delightful. A Swiss dish made from grated potatoes as the main ingredients, some other ingredients may included such as cheese and wurst . Moreover, they also offer wide range of veggies to choose from the salad bar, of course with various dressing options. But personally, I prefer their Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. Well, it's getting closer to Christmas, a special thing from Marche, I got a chance to see the Stollen Bread Making. Stollen Bread is popular in Germany that is usually made before Christmas. To experience the making of Stollen Bread , it was fun and of course the best part was the tasting session. Unlike mo

Sate & Gule Kambing Lemans

Image
Sate & Gule Kambing Lemans Sate, one of the most popular Indonesian food. Skewered meat, grilled, smoky, savory, and a little bit sweet. The most common is one with peanut sauce. Chicken and beef are often found in Indonesian restaurant. But there's another version made from lamb that generally can be love/hate relationship with sate lovers. This place is known for its sate kambing . Well, at first I doubted it, thought that it won't be good. In fact, it was quite nice. Ordered sate sapi (beef satay) and sate kambing (lamb satay), surprisingly the lamb was so much better than beef sate . Smoky, tender, and it didn't smell. Steamed white rice, peanut sauce, and pickles were best companions for meaty dinner. Using hot plate for serving to keep the meat warm, at least until the time it goes into the mouth. A bowl of comforting Gule  is a must to order, I did manage to order Tongseng but unfortunately it was sold out. It's surely not an everyday meal to me but once a

Ropang Plus Plus Muara Karang: Indomie Telor Asin

Image

Rumah Makan Legoh: Nasi Goreng Hitam, Enak!! Ask For The Secret Menu, and Please Order Nasi Goreng BaCuk It's not a coincidence, visiting this place couple times for the ultimate Indonesian mandatory meal, nasi goreng . Originated from Bandung but it's also at Pasar Santa , the hippest food market in South Jakarta. Anyway, besides, they surely have a lot more to offer. I said, tasty Indonesian food!! More than nasi goreng . In general, the food here are really good, so it's unlikely ordering a wrong meal.  Shall we start with some greens? Broccoli and mushroom, Tumis Brokoli Jamur : lightly seasoned veggies, juicy mushroom, simply comforting. Next, Tahu Cabe Garam : Seriously it's my kind of bean curd, I've fallen on my first bite. Crispy on the outside but very soft and smooth, it's not hollow, and taste like soy milk, super yum! The crumbs was salty (of course, remember it's cabe garam? ), best with steamed white rice. It's widely known that this place

Resep: Ayam Geprek a'la Jogja

Image
OK so what is actually " ayam geprek "? Not a traditional Javanese food but locals made it like typical food of Yogyakarta, it's everywhere though not as many as gudeg . Here's few ingredients you'll need to make ayam geprek ala Jogja: Ingredients : 1 pcs your favorite American style fried chicken 1 clove of garlic few hot chili peppers (I used red bird's eye chili) salt to taste Optional ingredients : 1/4 tsp sugar a sliced of tomato (optional) shrimp paste / terasi (optional), I did NOT put any, but you can try, adjust to your taste a pinch of granulated mushroom bouillon (optional

What To Eat In Jogja: 'Penyetan'

Image
This city has a huge amount of visitors, tourists, and students from other region. Most of newbies are most likely get surprised about how "sweet" is the food here. Javanese loves sweet, they put plenty of sugar not only in desserts but also main dishes.  Gudeg  is generally very sweet but some places serve less-sweet  gudeg  to adjust the visitors palate. Aside from  gudeg ,   penyetan   is also very popular among locals and comer. So if what is actually " penyetan "? Pretty similar with what known as " lalapan " in Malang, but here in around Jakarta and most cities in West Java such as Bandung, we're more familiar with   pecel ayam . The place that serve   ayam goreng   (fried chicken) or sometimes   ayam bakar   (grilled chicken) accompanied with home special   sambal   that can be spicy-savory or sweet and spicy.   Tempeh   and tofu are the most general findings in   warung penyetan . Here are some of   penyetan   places that I've visited few t

Kedai Ling Ling: Home For Asian Dessert

Image
Kedai Ling Ling Sukajadi Bandung: Home For Asian Dessert! Lived in this city for around 5 years, the place that filled with creative people from music to culinary. It's a never ending innovation  Kedai Ling Ling is famous for its cheap affordable Japanese food such as ramen and takoyaki (octopus balls). Throw away that thoughts from "real ramen " I'm talking about customized ramen that probably more acceptable for locals. In fact, their takoyaki was quite nice, best I can find in Bandung.  Earlier, I did a short food trip, finally coming back to Bandung. Kedai Ling Ling is located at Sukajadi, 10 minutes away from Hilton , very close to Paris Van Java Mall. The place is so huge, to be compared with their Cihampelas and Trunojoyo outlet, more seating, less crowded.  When I saw on the menu, OK now they have a lot more to offer especially desserts. Still remember clearly that they're famous for what's called Mango Dessert. This time, I ordered something simil

Sweet Belly and DonWoori Suki

Sweet Belly and DonWoori Suki Bandung: Cute Desserts and Casual Korean Food Both are located in the same building, Sweet Belly is part of DonWoori Suki . Take place at the shady Jalan Lombok, close to Gudeg Banda. How I miss this city with its small road, less traffic than Jakarta. As the last time, stayed at Hilton Bandung  that is just right if you're into exploring culinary around Chinatown. This area is different, just a short turn from Riau street, honestly, got no idea about this place, but by the time I stepped in, yes so pretty, particularly outdoor seating area. Another cute spot, serving casual Korean food and suki , with a dessert cafe on terrace, interesting. Chicken Kimbab - typical Korean rice rolls, consists of chicken, spinach, carrot, and pickled radish. Accompanied by soy sauce. Portion was extremely generous, got twelve pieces of kimbab. Tasty filling though I was expecting stronger sesame oil flavor. Perhaps I should try some other savory dishes, but it was t

Nasi Pedas dan Bebek Crispy Dewata Gading Serpong: Finally, Another Balinese Food In Serpong!! Lately I've been craving for Balinese food more precisely suckling pig but here I can't find any. Someone, somebody need to look up for this, well seriously it's gonna be big! So rather than nothing, nasi pedas sounds just good. Found a new place for Balinese food in Serpong called Nasi Pedas dan Bebek Crispy Dewata . Actually I am a frequent of Warung Made Nasi Bali-Ku Pasar Modern BSD City (they're also at Kencana Loka), the only reason because it's the only I can find and remain being my favorite in Serpong. When it comes to Balinese food, sambal matah is compulsion for me, following by urap Bali . There were so many to choose, from spicy eggplant to sate lilit (fish satay), one that caught my heed was the crispy chicken skin which was far from my expectation, I was expecting savory umami taste. I'd rather have more ayam pelalah with their home sambal , super sp
