Tom's Palette Singapore: Home For Unique Ice Cream Flavors

Image
How do you like ice cream? If you're following me on my Instagram , you may notice that I am really into ice cream. It became a habit that since years ago, I always look for ice cream places when traveling. My Singaporean friends told me about this ice cream parlor also some other names but I find Tom's Palette quite interesting. Why? Because they have unique flavors, such as salted egg yolk , yuzu , and red wine sorbet . Honestly, I was very excited to try their salted egg yolk flavor, it may sounds weird but in fact really it's not that bad.  Ordered Waffle with two scoops of ice cream ( salted egg yolk and white chocolate nori ), yes went for adventurous palate, it costed us SGD 12.40. Surprisingly I love the white chocolate nori , so good! But the white chocolate was too sweet to my liking. It was eating french fries with ice cream, savory and sweet at the same time. While the salted egg yolk was just fine for me, no rancidity, but you still can taste the grainy textu

Aloha Poke Singapore, YES for Hawaiian Food!

Image
Ever heard about Poke? Well, it's a very popular dish from Hawaii, raw fish salad, tuna is the very common one. On my last trip during tight schedule of Influence Asia Award in Singapore (still can not believe that I'm the nominee for Food category representing Indonesia), I came to Aloha Poke  for dinner. The one behind this place is Michael, contestant from Hell's Kitchen Indonesia. Thank's to my dear friend Natasha from Yummy Traveler for bringing me here with Julia from Anak Jajan . We're getting excited thought we're in a rush to follow the next event. Anyway, but we made it, here are some of what we had earlier. But first Coconut Water to quench our thirst. As I know that ingredients in Hawaiian food are pretty much the same with what you can find in Japanese cuisine. Shall we start with  Musubi (SGD 11) ?Sushi-like appearance, wrapped with nori (seaweed), fried spam on top, it was quite tasty as it has soy sauce glaze on top, savory and slightly sweet.

Food Trip: The Roti Prata House Singapore

Image
Indian food can be pricey here in Indonesia as it is usually can be found in specialty restaurant but in Singapore (also Malaysia) it's everywhere. Also, finding late night meals in Jakarta is much easier than in Singapore but this place saved us, The Roti Prata House . It was very late and we're super hungry, my first choice was  Maggi Goreng (SGD 3.50), instant noodle that is popular in Malaysia and Singapore but they cooked it again along with some veggies and spices to enhance the flavor. To fulfill the hunger, Masala Chicken Briyani  (SGD 5.50) was quite satisfying, fragrant rice combined with super tender chicken in rich and spicy sauce. More protein from  Crispy Fried Chicken (SGD 4.50) I've always been a fan of this kind of fried chicken, typical Singapore-Malaysian ayam goreng , juicy and tender meat with light crispy batter on the outside. Prata Banana (SGD 3), Corn (SGD 2.50), Durian (SGD 3.50). Crispy Prata filled with various filling such as cheese, choco

Any plan visiting South Korea? Well, here are some of Korean food that I had earlier while in Seoul. Summed, my version, 15 Must Eat Korean Food , actually they have a lot more, tteokbokki is one that I took out from the list because it's extremely popular and it's everywhere in Seoul. Read more about  Seoul Travel Guide 2015 ,  Seoul Food Guide , and the beautiful  Samcheongdong Area , also  LINE Friends Cafe & Store  in Garosugil.  1. Bibimbap This is probably the most popular Korean Food, when in Korea you definitely need to eat Bibimbap . It is a rice dish topped with veggies, such as bean sprouts, carrot, spinach, egg, and (sometimes) beef, with gochujang (red pepper paste) as the seasoning. While regular Bibimbap is served in a bowl with sunny side up, Dolsot Bibimbap is the one that is served in a stone pot. Personally I like Dolsot Bibimbap better than the regular one, smoky, sizzling, very appetizing. Every Korean restaurant has Bibimbap, though the taste can be

fried fishcakes with ketchup and mustard I know it can be very easy if you're in a middle or upper restaurant as they will serve you just most of restaurant in Indonesia, full service. At some places such as coffee shop, bakeries, and dessert cafe, you want to go the counter, ordering the food, doing payment, and pick wherever you want to sit. If it takes few times to make your order, they will give like a small buzzer that will notify you when the food is ready so you can pick it up at the counter. Also when you're done, make sure to bring the tray and empty bowl or cup to the counter.  Cutleries can be found inside the drawer, just look around the table edges. Or it might be on the table, simply look for a wooden or plastic box, closely like a tissue box. Generally you can only get spoon, metal chopstick, and paper napkins. Water is usually provided for free. read more about travel guide to Seoul, here .  Where? Seoul is a big city. It's very easy to find restaurants, caf

Bonus: Find out about how to get in K-Pop show and more things to do in Seoul Just finished my third visit to South Korea, it was enough to write about this simple guide, well or just take it as me sharing my stories. First, for us with Indonesian passport, let's just prepare some documents for visa. Either with or without the travel agent, here's my experience applying Korean Visa through Korean Embassy in Jakarta. Get In: By air, most of international flights get in through Incheon International Airport (ICN), though some flights from Japan also flying to Gimpo. First was with Garuda Indonesia. Last year was with Cathay Pacific with a transfer at Hong Kong and a stopover before going back to Jakarta. The airlines I know that have special price for 2 pax purchasing, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific. Service was amazing, personally (for no reason, my un-important thing) I usually make an order for special meal request. From gluten free to vegetarian, it's just fun to
