Resep: Potato Cheese Balls Recipe

Image
As a big fan of potato and cheese at the same time, the combination of both is just lovely for me. So, few weeks ago I wrote a recipe for Perkedel , Indonesian style mashed potato fritters. This recipe is even better, well because I added cheese into the dough and filled with mozzarella, it's breaded, and deep fried. Can I name it Perkedel Hybrid? Well, it's really a must try recipe anyway.  There's an option to put the garlic in or not, I prefer mine without garlic. But if you want it with garlic, it will taste pretty close to  Perkedel  while I like it cheesy so better to leave the garlic. You can also replace the corned beef with chopped smoked beef. It is important to put the breaded potato balls into the fridge (approximately 15-30 minutes) before frying as you want everything stick together. Deep fry on medium low heat, until golden brown. Ingredients: 4 potatoes, boiled, peeled 50 gr corned beef 1 tbsp flour 50 gr grated cheddar cheese 100 gr mozzarella, cut into cub

Experience And Savor Indonesian Food At Plataran Dharmawangsa Jakarta

Image
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when hearing Plataran ? The Hotel, Resort, or Dining? All related to traditional Indonesian culture. There are few restaurants in Jakarta under Plataran, the newest one is Plataran Menteng . But, I'm going to explore more about Plataran Dharmawangsa . I've been there to attend an event, but at this occasion, I had whole experience from Plataran Dharmawangsa , especially the food. Plataran Dharmawangsa located in a prestige area of South Jakarta, presenting authentic Indonesian cuisine. With the 150 years old heritage Joglo house, wooden Javanese pavilions, 50 years old prayer house, beautiful garden, spacious enough to accommodate private events. The garden is my personal favorite area, and what makes it special? There are two Guineafowl or in Indonesian known as " ayam mutiara ". They're wandering around the garden, no cage, no nothing. When it gets dark, they will climb up onto the tree. Not an everyday view, but

Resep: Perkedel (Indonesian Mashed Potato Fritters) Recipe

Image
How do you make Perkedel ? The recipes may vary, I like mine with boiled potato instead of fried potato as the result will be nice and soft inside, similar to piping hot takoyaki. It's just great with sauteed ground beef, but classic Indonesian version, it's usually made with canned corned beef. There are two version, the one with egg coating (very common) and with the egg mixed into the dough. Sometimes, I make the mixed one, using this recipe but with extra egg so the dough won't be crumbly in frying process. Perkedel is my favorite, it goes well with chicken soup and rice, soto , or just eat it as a snack, yum!! I share this recipe so you can make your own, feel free to add your favorite ingredients, adjust the seasoning, you know, be creative. Lastly, let me know, share it to my social media, happy cooking. Ingredients: 500 gr potato, peeled, boiled 3 stalks green onion, thinly sliced 80 gr corned beef 1 egg 2-3 tbsp flour 3 cloves shallot, puree 5-7 cloves garlic, pure

Resep: Risoles Smoked Beef dan Sayuran Recipe

Image
My version of Risoles, looks like the regular Risoles but I added smoked beef and grated cheese into the ragout. It's actually not difficult but also not easy. Batter recipe is adapted from Cookpad (original recipe, here ). Beaten egg is just right for coating before bread crumbs but, you can also use the leftover batter. Keep the breaded Risoles in freezer for 2-3 hours before frying. For the filling, I added grated cheese for extra flavor, well it was sooo good! Also, I used fresh veggies but you can use frozen, or precooked veggies. I like crunchy texture but it's normally with cooked veggies. The filling is probably too runny when it's hot but it will be thickened once cool down.  Ingredients: 50 gr butter 1/4 cup smoked beef, sliced 1/4 cup onion, minced 1/4 cup all purpose flour (tepung terigu protein sedang) 300 ml milk 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese 1/4 cup corn, boiled 1/4 cup carrot, boiled 1/4 cup green beans, boiled 1/8 tsp grated nutmeg salt & pepper to tast

Resep: Bala-Bala / Bakwan (Indonesian Vegetable Fritter) Recipe

Image
It's deep fried, it's greasy, definitely not a healthy snack but here in Indonesia, " gorengan " refers to deep fried snacks are just mandatory, you'll find it like at every corner of the street, it is sold in a food cart. You can eat it as a snack or with rice as a side dish. One of the most popular gorengan is bala-bala , also known as bakwan and ote-ote . Made from thinly sliced, shredded veggies in savory batter, deep fried, similar to Japanese veggie tempura. Cabbage is a must for bala-bala , because fried cabbage is really good. Ingredients : 1.5 cup all purpose flour 2 tbsp rice flour 250 ml cold water 2 cloves garlic, pureed 3 shallot, pureed 1 tbsp butter 1/2 tsp chicken powder / bouillon salt and pepper to taste 2 green onion, sliced 1/2 cup bean sprout 2 cup thinly sliced veggies (carrot, cabbage, green beans) 1/2 cup corn (recommended) shrimp (optional) Directions : Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, fry in hot oil until golden brown. Resep: Nangka dan Pisang Goreng (Fried Jackfruit and Banana Fritters Recipe)

Image
One of the most famous Indonesian snack, Pisang Goreng or in English, Banana Fritters or Fried Bananas . If you can fine ripe jackfruit then it's great, my favorite, also pineapple! Definitely not healthy but really I just can't say no. This recipe that I modified from my mom, she usually puts some cold butter (or margarine) into the batter, it's her secret. Rice flour and baking powder are my key ingredients for making it light and crispy. Also, I made coconut milk sauce infused with pandan leaves, perfect companion for both banana and jackfruit fritters. You can use almost any kind of banana or even ripe plantain, I find pisang uli  (I don't know what's it in English) is best for banana fritters. Find out how to make it on my Youtube video and check out the measurement down below. Ingredients : 1 cup all purpose flour 2 tbsp rice flour 1 tbsp cold butter / margarine 1 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt or to taste 1/2 tsp baking powder 250 ml cold water banana and ripe ja

Sate & Gule Kambing Lemans

Image
Sate & Gule Kambing Lemans Sate, one of the most popular Indonesian food. Skewered meat, grilled, smoky, savory, and a little bit sweet. The most common is one with peanut sauce. Chicken and beef are often found in Indonesian restaurant. But there's another version made from lamb that generally can be love/hate relationship with sate lovers. This place is known for its sate kambing . Well, at first I doubted it, thought that it won't be good. In fact, it was quite nice. Ordered sate sapi (beef satay) and sate kambing (lamb satay), surprisingly the lamb was so much better than beef sate . Smoky, tender, and it didn't smell. Steamed white rice, peanut sauce, and pickles were best companions for meaty dinner. Using hot plate for serving to keep the meat warm, at least until the time it goes into the mouth. A bowl of comforting Gule  is a must to order, I did manage to order Tongseng but unfortunately it was sold out. It's surely not an everyday meal to me but once a

D'Solo Restaurant & Coto Makassar Anging Mammiri Melawai

There are so many places in Jakarta for Javanese food, typically sweet but here it's definitely acceptable. Shall we start with  Lontong Solo (IDR 30.000)? Sliced rice cakes that cooked in banana leaves wrap, hard boiled egg, shredded chicken, sambel goreng kentang  (spicy potato), rich in flavor coconut milk soup, comforting for breakfast. It's probably one that I always look for when it comes to Javanese food, Selat Solo (IDR 30.000) a piece of meat with potatoes, carrot, snaps, pickles, in sweet and savoury sauce. As they used pressure cooker, tender meat in result is just nice. I personally enjoyed the sauce a lot, light, fresh, and sweet without bothering my palate.  Selat Solo Far away from Sundanese Nasi Liwet, Solo style is served with shredded chicken, hard boiled egg, and chayote that cooked in coconut milk along with some spices. It's a must rice dish to order, Nasi Liwet (IDR 32.000) tasty food, reasonable price, generous portion. No wonder that this place wa
