Resep: Easy Croque Monsieur Recipe
Sounds fancy as it's French, Croque Monsieur , a typical sandwich from France along with Croque Madam (with fried egg). I used white bread because that's all I have in hand. What makes it different from regular sandwich is the sauce, white sauce made with butter flour mixture ( roux ) and milk. I found that some also use cheese sauce to replace the bechamel . Lately, it can be found easily at not only in restaurants but also at some coffee shops here in Jakarta. The most necessary, cheese, to me it's not a sandwich without cheese. Emmental and Gruyere is the most common, but feel free to add your favorite. I did not have both so I used Butterkäse , soft cheese with buttery flavor, very popular in Germany, too bad I can't find it here in Indonesia. My sister brought me some, well to me it's precious hehe.. It's great for sandwich with stringy melting effect like mozzarella but better.
