Hidden Korean Street Food Place Jakarta

Image

Resep: Honey Butter Fried Chicken Recipe

Image
Honey Butter Chips or Almonds are very popular in South Korea at least for the past few years. Honestly, honey - butter sounds very interesting to me. This week I watch a video on Youtube about how to make Honey Butter Fried Chicken , it was from one of my favorite Korean Youtuber, Maangchi. So, I decided to make my own. I marinated the chicken with garlic as I prefer more flavorful taste. Double fry is a method that actually works really well for fried chicken.  For the sauce, the original recipe calls for garlic, yes it tasted great but I found that you really can skip the garlic for even richer honey and butter taste. Sugar is great for coating while the honey is just as flavoring, one of the most important part (for me) is to add some of the butter in last minute once you turned off the heat. It will add stronger butter flavor. It's great with chili sauce but I have a dipping sauce recipe that suits this fried chicken, simply mix all the ingredients, and adjust the taste to you

Resep:Gimmari / Kimmari - Korean Deep Fried Seaweed Rolls

Image
Gimmari, Deep Fried Seaweed Rolls filled with glass noodles. Chewy glass noodles wrapped with crispy seaweed, batter coated fried food is just always good. Next time if you're making tteokbokki or budae jjigae, this will be a good company, to be dipped into the sauce.  It's always good to be back in South Korea, just to find good places to eat. I wrote about 15 Must Eat Korean Food  if you want to read, well I definitely need to update it. Gimmari is actually pretty easy to find at the street food vendor in Seoul, but here in Jakarta, I haven't found it yet. So, why not making my own Gimmari. It's actually very easy to make, but it's so good. You surely can make your batter from scratch but once I tried using tempura flour, it turned really nice, light, and crispy. Double fry method is very recommended for this recipe. Ingredients: 100 gr glass noodles 30 gr tiny diced carrot 3 tbsp chives, sliced 5-7 sheets nori seaweed 1 tbsp sesame oil 1 tbsp soy sauce 160 gr te

Resep: Eomukguk / Eomuk-Tang (Odeng Guk) Recipe

Image
So many things to do, so little time. Missing South Korea so bad, so I decided to make this simple yet hearty Eomukguk. The key is the broth, reminds me back in Seoul, there's a place close to CGV Myeongdong, a street food stall, they have amazing Eomukguk. I saw the Ahjussi added so many things into the broth, from green onion to dried chili. I think you can really explore the ingredients for the tasty broth. My version is very basic, I think it would be great with some clams for extra flavor Ingredients: 700 ml water 3-4 Eomuk / fish cakes, any shape 1-2 beef / chicken hotdogs, sliced 2 cloves garlic 1/2 onion, sliced 1/2 daikon radish, sliced 1 green onion, sliced 1 tsp dashi kelp, I used granulated kelp around 1 tsp 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 tsp sugar salt to taste The Dipping Sauce : 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tbsp hot pepper / chili powder 1 green chili, chopped (optional) 2 tbsp sliced green onion 1 tbsp sugar 1/4 cup soy sauce 1 tbsp sesame oil Watch the video for directions Find me

Resep: Cheese Tteokbokki Carbonara Recipe

Image
This is definitely not an authentic Korean dish, but let's say fusion. Inspired by places that serve cheese tteokbokki . I personally prefer the original tteokbokki with gochujang as the base for the sauce, but it's worth to try though. When it comes to white sauce and cheese, please use good cheese because it matters, try sharp cheddar, parmesan, swiss, emmental, and mozzarella for stringy texture on top. This weekend my sister brought me some  Butterkäse (my favorite cheese from Germany, along with Asiago cheese from Italy), so I used it instead of mozzarella. It's not that hard to find rice cakes ( garaetteok ) here in Jakarta, usually in Korean Grocery Stores, such as Mu Gung Hwa. I also found some at larger supermarket, Grand Lucky SCBD, even Lottemart in Gandaria City made the fresh one. Ingredients : 1 cup rice cakes / garaetteok 1 clove garlic, minced 1/4 onion, sliced 1 tbsp all purpose flour 1 cup milk 1 beef / chicken hotdog, sliced 2-3 slices bacon  or beef ba

Resep: Hotteok 호떡 (Korean Filled Pancake) Recipe

Image
A flashback to Seoul, my lastest trip to South Korea was last year, read about my most viewed writing 15 Must Eat Korean Food Seoul   and the video Must Eat Korean Food in Seoul  on my Youtube channel. Hotteok ( 호떡 ) is generally sweet but I found the savory version filled with Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables) at Namdaemun Market. The sweet Hotteok usually filled with brown sugar, sometimes sweetened red bean, but you can go with pretty much anything from nutella to cheese. I think it will work with cinnamon sugar too. This recipe is modified from Maangchi , yes my favorite Korean Youtuber. Anyway check out my Youtube for the video. Ingredients : 1 cup bread flour (high protein wheat flour) 1/2 cup luke warm water 1 tsp dry yeast 2 tbsp cooking oil 1 tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt sweetened red bean, as needed more flour for forming the dough oil for frying Watch the video for the directions Find me on: Youtube  and  Instagram   @heytheresia  for daily food and travel upd

Ojju - K-Food Kota Kasablanka (Kokas) Jakarta: Korean BBQ Ribs with Mozzarella Cheese

Image
Finally it's here the Korean BBQ Ribs, remember my previous post about eating in Seoul  ?  Also you probably remember the James Back Ribs, spicy pork ribs coated with stringy mozzarella cheese, yassss the good news now we have it here in Jakarta, similar, no pork because it's beef. Ojju K-Food a newly opened restaurant in Mall Kota Kasablanka , south Jakarta. Free banchan (side dish) was quite nice, consist of cream corn, kimchi, and pasta salad, but unfortunately it's not refillable (unlike at most of Korean restaurant), you can order additional banchan instead. Rolling Cheese Beef Ribs IDR 219.000 yes it's a no pork restaurant so you'll get 4 pieces of beef ribs (instead of pork ribs) served with potato wedges, melted mozzarella cheese, sweet corn, and pickled jalapeno, just like what I had while in Seoul. They offer 3 level of spiciness, personally I love the ribs seasoning, tangy gochujang , a bit smoky, definitely a finger licking good one. The other option,

Noodle King PIK - Jakarta: Korean Noodle Feast

Image
I personally always get excited when it comes to Korean Food, and seriously this place is a must visit if you're into Korean Food. Focusing on serving noodle dishes, from the most popular Jjajangmyeon to the skeptic Bibimnaengmyeon , and yes myeon means noodle. As in the other Korean restaurants, you'll get baechu kimchi , the most common kimchi that made from napa cabbage, it's free and it's possible to ask for a refill. I've tasted many when I was in Korea also at some places here in Jakarta, personally the kimchi here is one of best to my liking. If you notice that it's located beside Shirokuma, previously it was Hanok Korean Grill, so they changed the concept from Korean BBQ to modern noodle house. baechu kimchi The Couple: Jjajangmyeon   짜장면 and   Tangs uyuk   탕수육 Chewy noodles with thick salty black bean sauce, sweet onion for balance flavor, sesame seeds on top, a comforting dish. Portion was quite generous, perfect for two persons, but really I don&#

Chir Chir Chicken Jakarta, Indonesia (PIK)

Yasss finally a new KFC in Jakarta, I mean Korean Fried Chicken, it's Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory . From Korea to Singapore, now they're ready to serve you in Jakarta. Located at Ruko Garden House, Pantai Indah Kapuk, beside Mottomoo. If you noticed that on my list of 15 Must Eat Korean Food 2015 in Seoul, yes KFC is a must but even it's in Seoul, you definitely need to choose, OK, a reason to come back on 2k16. Meanwhile, I'm getting very excited about this place. Update: I've been here 3 times already :D Half Half Crispy Fried Chicken (IDR 149.000), it is possible to order different flavor but one must be the original, while you can choose the other between garlicky chicken or spicy chicken. I got the Original and Garlicky Chicken , crispy skin, super juicy meat, and the soy-garlic sauce was very tasty, salty savoury, finger licking good one! Mustard sauce was a bit strong for Indonesians as here we are most likely accustomed with American yellow mustard bu
